What Type Of Business Should I Start?

I think if you hit several busy graduations at some of the many universities and community colleges you could make your target. A good resume would probably be around $75 so u just need to do about 12 or 13 in the week or 10 days. With some help from Sara (maybe typing) it's do-able.

Would be cool to see you build something random that you know nothing about. How about a jewelry business?

Make an app,. You know how they have agents for quotations, u make an app for resume agents. The app helpz you get agents help you draw a perfect resume and where to send it. It scans your qualifications. And finds you job posts to suit the job that best fit your resume. ;-)dope !!!

I love that you're doing this and I'm pretty excited to see how it works out. Here are my ideas:

1. A greeting card business targeting men. Not the typical mushy stuff. Maybe make it a package deal with some kind of product that relates to the topic of the card. (This didn't seem like such a great idea after I actually typed it but I'm posting it anyway.)

2. Grocery ordering and delivery business

3. Singing telegrams? Can you sing? If not, you can hire singers! You can get paid to surprise people on their birthday or anniversary with a nice little serenade and maybe flowers, candy, etc.

That's all I got. If you can take one of those and make $1000 in 7 days, then I will absolutely no excuse for not starting a business.

This would help me big time~! To see something like this actually take shape.. man, I can't wait.

I was going to post my third idea for a business but it's a no-go. I was going to suggest being a business consultant with a niche in new business but heck that's what you do now!! DUH!! So I will go back to the old drawing board. I must have been asleep when I thought of that one. 

Thank you Daniel. This is an awesome challenge you're setting yourself, really putting it out there in front of everyone and risking failure.

I find it totally inspiring.

But yeah, as others have suggested, I hope you make it in an area/product you don't know much about.

Anything about teaching or selling success and marketing-related material is your already-proven field of expertise.

Hoping you steer clear of these as it could invite comments that you took the easy way out. The further away from these you go, the more inspiring your example will be for others.

As far as the resume business is concerned I would also find a recent book on form resumes to see what is expected now-a-days. Also grab a book on starting a resume business-I've seen them out there-probably a bit dated but the business concepts are the same. Get in touch with me for some more details.

2. My second idea for you is a motivational speaker: Your personality and energy level are well-suited and I think you could speak on any topic with just a little brushing up on the subject matter if it were unfamiliar to you. I don't know if you would want to self-promote or to initially work for a company that would do all the advertising and booking and paying for the sites. It has to be good money-i would expect you to profit more than $1,000 from your first gig. And when you get famous just dump the company and go on your own.

Not too bad for brevity. I will post my third idea in just a little while. Sorry but I find myself rather busy today.

A monthly subscription box like BirchBox or Trunk Club. You don't have to buy the items till you get orders

I like the previous comments of something really different from your experience, like art of some kind.

Also, a caution: if you decide to do a food business you will need to make sure you're compliant with the applicable food handling/preparation/labeling laws. It's doable with research, but it may take more than $25.

Also, how about self-publishing a book on Kindle/Createspace and selling that? You could use your best blog posts as content.

Video Course on some of what you have covered before. "Cold Email Like a Boss". Course on how to cold email anyone to get a job, get clients, make sales, get funding, yada yada. Show people how to properly set up a funnel. Too many people focusing on tactics, not strategy.

Set up affiliate program. Make bank. Buy some cool kicks.

@Davester227 This breaks rule #1 - any material Daniel has "covered before" is out, and much of what you mention (e.g. email funnels) is already elsewhere on this site.

However there are some great video courses on exactly the stuff you mention already available. Not sure if it's cool to mention names here so I won't, but I'm sure you'll be able to find them within a couple minutes on Google.

I'd be interested to see how you go about finding something of real value for customers despite being a "non-artist" yourself.

It would help the tribe a lot. We could adapt the principles you use and apply them to ANY field we choose regardless of whether we feel we are expert or not.

@Rich20Something @Pavinder Yeah, a physical product related to a creative area in general (Photography, Art, Music, Film etc).

Basically I think anything based on a physical product or a generic topic area (a creative area rather than a "success/marketing" area) would be a good theme for such a short-term challenge.

Of course this might just be challenge #1 - maybe you could start a series.

Definitely. I think there a lot of people that know WHAT they want to do or sell but don't know HOW to sell. I think a course that ties together much of what you have covered as a strategy instead of a set of tactics would help a lot of people. Then, you can offer your special $4k-$5k 4-6 week mastermind in which you work with a group of about 12-15 people and you show them how to take it to the next level with strategies that you have never shared before. :)

Agreed.

I used to own Tax return prep stores. We used to build our stores as close to H&R; Block as possibe. Why? We knew we could serve our clients better. Nobody has your unique perspective on things, and nobody can serve your tribe like you can.
