Getting Catfished with Nev Schulman

Today, I’m crazy excited to share with you one of my favorite interviews EVER.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Nev Schulman, host of MTV’s hit show Catfish.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, Catfish is a really unique show that explores the strange intricacies of online dating…and why some people lie about their identities online.

(The entire show is based on a 2010 documentary of the same name that was equal parts funny/heartwarming/creepy.)

Nev shares so many cool, interesting tidbits about the psychology behind relationships, why people lie and the craziest people he’s met on the show. Also…extremely interesting, he goes in DEPTH about how he uses different tools and technology to determine if someone really is who they say they are online.

Some time stamps to guide you:

  • 00:10 Catfish documentary, trailer for Catfish: The TV Show, and the different types of “catfish.”
  • 07:10: Relationships, trust, and the process of investigating to prove that someone is fake.
  • 16:50: the state of online dating. and the problem with compromise
  • 24:50: Catfish: The TV Show’s most interesting episodes

Gimme some feedback!

Do you watch Catfish?

Have you ever been catfished…or…gulp..catfished someone else?

Caught a couple episodes, and it's crazzzzy what some people do.

Especially the ones where family is involved...awkward.

Also, yes I'm pretty sure I've been catfished before...especially in the Myspace days!

Awesome job, Daniel.

I love watching Nev and Catfish, and the interview taught me a lot about the motivation of "catfishers" and about being unique online so we're all not a part of the zombie apocalypse. :-)

I definitely watch every single episode of Catfish. I've been thoroughly mortified and amused by the lies people tell. The Fermell episode is epic! I've never catfished anyone. I'm too fly! Lol, and nope I've never been catfished.
